What is XR-DIMM™?RS-DIMM Modules

XR-DIMM™ is a new rugged memory module standard for the embedded systems market. It is hosted by the Small Form Factors Special Interest Group. (SFF-SIG) In analogy to their SO-DIMM counterparts, the specification defines both unbuffered and registered versions, XR-UDIMM™ and XR-RDIMM™, respectively.. The module is not as wide as SO-DIMMs, allowing it to fit better on small processor boards and modules. The module can be secured with two screws to achive better shock and vibration resistance. Optional SATA pins allow Embedded PC manufacturers to reduce space consumed by connectors on their products.

There are various manufacturers of XR-DIMM™ modules, among them Swissbit and Samtec.

LEMT - LiPPERT Enhanced Management Technology

LiPPERT Enhanced Management Technology (LEMT) has been developed to resolve some shortcomings of today's Embedded PC systems. For once, contemporary processors and chipsets have complex needs when it comes housekeeping tasks; for instance, to power up and power save modes. In order to flexibly handle these requirements, the best solution is to integrate a microcontroller on board, which can be freely programmed to handle even the most complex sequences. On the other hand, many applications require that there are means to record up times, maximum temperatures and the like. LiPPERT has adressed these issues with LEMT.

Detailed information about LEMT is available in the Developers section of this site.

Cooling Solutions for Embedded PCCool XpressRunner-GS45 passive cooling

With the increasing demand for performance on X86 architecture based single board computers and computer modules the heat dissipation concept becomes more and more complex. Many applications require reliable computing under high temperature conditions (-40°C to 85°C), but the challenge is to keep the CPU / chipset temperature within the specified range. Having only a small temperature delta for compensation, huge heat sinks are required in order to move the heat away from the CPU. When it comes to closed systems without any airflow it gets even worse.

Linux corebootcoreboot_combo_web

coreboot is an open source BIOS replacement. Other than the usual BIOSes, it only performs a basic initialization of the computer's hardware. This leads to shorter boot times. On LiPPERT's AMD hardware, coreboot initializes the hardware typically in less than 1 second.

Short Introduction to the LVDS Transmission Standard

IEEE standard P1596.3-1995 defines Low-Voltage Differential Signals (LVDS) for scalable, coherent interfaces. (SCI) These are a high-speed packet transmission protocol and constitute bus-like transactions like Read and Write.

LiPPERT CE konform

CE - Marking

Complex electronic components that must observe the CE requirements need a "CE Certificate Of Conformance" and must be marked with a CE compliance label. However, if such complex electronic components are produced for further processing by industry, skilled crafts or other EMI informed businesses only, they do not need to observe the above mentioned CE requirements and consequently do not need any identification either.
